December Book Report

Dear Students and Parents,

We are going to begin doing monthly book reports in 4th grade. I am not going to plan out specific times for them to work on these in class, but they will be able to use free time to work. This will make a large majority of the project homework. I will be giving students time in class to work on their report one day, on December 15th.  For the month of December I would like the students to read a non-fiction book and choose one of the following projects to do. The students will be presenting in class December 18th to the 20th.

Possible projects

1.       Write a diary that one of the story’s main characters might have kept before, during, or after the book’s events. Remember that the character’s thoughts and feelings are very important in a diary.

2.       Give a sales talk, pretending the students in the class are clerks in a bookstore and you want them to push this book. You will need to write up your presentation to hand in with your project.

3.       Make a timeline of events from the book. You must have a minimum of 10 important events.

4.       Make a newspaper about your book, with all a newspaper’s parts- comics, ads, weather, letter to the editor, etc.
