Welcome to St. Matthew Catholic School!  My name is Heather Huscher, and this is my fourth year as principal of SMCS.  I was born at Offutt AFB, NE, to Nick and Vicki Hay, who recently celebrated 44 years of marriage.  I was raised in Yates Center, Kansas, and moved to Topeka to attend Washburn University.  After earning undergraduate degrees in History and Political Science, I worked for two years at the Kansas Secretary of State's Office and also dabbled in substitute teaching.  I decided to become a teacher, so I moved to Ft. Worth to attend Texas Christian University, where I earned a master's degree in secondary education.  After graduation, I returned to Topeka and taught at Washburn Rural High School for 12 years.  During that time I had my two daughters, Reagan and Reese, who are students here at St. Matthew.  I also completed an endorsement in educational administration at Emporia State.  In January 2009, I was reading the Leaven and saw the opening for the principal's position at St. Matthew, and the rest, as they say, is history!  My family and I have enjoyed making St. Matthew our church home.
