Sacramental Prep

Sacramental preparation for First Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation is a family endeavor. Parents are required to attend preparatory sessions that invite them to look at these sacraments from an adult perspective as well as assist them in helping to prepare their children for the reception of the sacraments. The Parish School of Religious Education, in cooperation with the parish grade school, is responsible for sacramental preparation for all of the children of St. Matthew's.

Generally speaking, children receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist when they are in 2nd Grade, and the Sacrament of Confirmation during their 8th Grade year. Preparation for each sacrament is a two year process, so in order for a student to receive Reconciliation and First Eucharist, they must attend either the school or Religious Education Classes for the 1st and 2nd Grade. For Confirmation, students must attend the 7th and 8th grade. The Religious Education Program, in cooperation with St. Matthew Catholic School, is responsible for working with the parents/guardians to insure that the children of St. Matthew’s are properly prepared to receive these very important sacraments.
