Week of March 18-22 in Grade 2

Welcome to the fourth quarter!  We will be very busy these next few months.

This week in religion we are continuing to discuss the importance of Sunday Mass.  We will begin to focus on the Introductory Rites.  We will also be sending home reading parts for the Stations of the Cross.  I made a mistake on the parent letter.  Our class will lead the Stations on Friday, March 29 at 2:45 p.m. (Not on March 28).

In math we are working on dividing a group of objects in half. (Dividing by 2.)  We are also working on estimation and will be practicing measuring using different units.  Keep working on subtraction facts at home.  Our next fact assessment will include the "minus 7" facts.

Our spelling/phonics lessons for the week focus on the vowel teams ou and ow (loud and cow).  Please make sure the Spelling Tic-tac-toe is completed and turned in on Friday.

The rescheduled Parent meetings are Wednesday, March 27 and Sunday March 31.  You must attend one of these meetings.

Week of February 25 in 2nd grade

Our class is eagerly anticipating our chicks hatching this week!  Hopefully you will be hearing lots of stories about how cute they are.  We are using science time this week to continue studying different animals.  The students will be learning about how God created each one with what it needs to survive.

During Religion we are reading about all of the Sacraments.  We will review Baptism and Reconciliation.  We will also discuss the importance of Confirmation.  Our Bible Buddies are being Confirmed Wednesday evening, so this is an eventful week.

Our phonics and spelling lessons are focusing on the long u sound spelled with ew, ui, ue, and oo.  The list may be more of a challenge since there are so many ways to spell this sound.  Make sure the students are doing the tic-tac-toe.  Remember that any box with a star has work that must be turned in with the form.

In math we are continuing to work on 2-digit subtraction.  We will also be introducing using equal groups to understand multiplication and multiplying by 10.

The Parent meetings for First Communion have been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 27 at 6:45 p.m. and Sunday, March 31 at 9:15 a.m.  Please plan to attend one of these meetings.
